Last week New York’s COVID-19 case count lowered by 36.5%, meaning that the wave of omicron sub variants is beginning to subside. New York is currently ranked 22nd in states where coronavirus was spreading fastest per person based on data from USA TODAY Network’s analysis of John Hopkins University.

The trend over the last few weeks suggested that the wave is moving downstate and decreasing upstate, where the rise in cases first began. Now, it seems that the numbers of cases are falling statewide in both urban and rural areas; 32 of 62 counties are still at a high-risk level. As of June 2, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island are at a medium level; an average of 3,340 cases per day have been reported, a 22 percent decrease from the average two weeks ago.

“It is important that we don’t let our guard down and continue to use the tools we have available to us to stay safe and healthy(…)the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from serious illness is to get vaccinated and keep up to date with your booster doses.” Stated Governor Kathy Hochul in her statement.
