HealthNeed Medical Urgent Care Now Offers Abbott ID NOW Rapid COVID-19 Testing

Abbott — a molecular point-of-care platform in the US — has released the ID NOW COVID-19 rapid test to frontline healthcare officials after approval for emergency use by the FDA. This is a high-quality rapid test designed to deliver results in as little as five minutes for a positive result by targeting the coronavirus RdRp gene. It is small and lightweight, weighing only 6.6 pounds and about the size of a toaster, allowing it to be used in non-traditional settings. Abbott’s ID NOW is a platform commonly used for detecting Influenza A&B, Strep A, and respiratory syncytial virus testing; the company expects to deliver 50,000 tests per day. The method of administration for this test is the standard nasal swab method which is then placed in an acidic solution heated to 132.8℉ which allows the viral RNA to be exposed and detected if there is an infection.
