The recall was initiated after the company discovered that the packaging failed to disclose the inclusion of tree nuts. This oversight, attributed to a temporary breakdown in production and packaging processes, led to the distribution of the affected product. Gardners has since suspended production of the product until the issue is resolved.

Details of the Recalled Products

The recalled items include 1.25-ounce packages of Cappuccino Meltaway Bars, marked with lot #082725, and bearing an expiration date of August 27, 2025. These were sold nationwide starting September 1 through retailers and mail orders on Gardners.Candies.com. Additionally, the recall extends to Gardners Meltaway Treat Boxes, which include two Cappuccino Meltaway Bars alongside other flavors, marked with lot #101625 or #112525.

Health Risks Associated with Tree Nut Allergies

Tree nut allergies affect approximately 0.5% to 1% of the U.S. population and can result in severe reactions, including life-threatening anaphylaxis. Individuals with this allergy are advised to carry epinephrine at all times. Tree nuts include cashews, almonds, hazelnuts, pecans, pistachios, and walnuts, among others.
